Looker Studio Dashboard Starter

Copy the data template, paste your link and create a Looker Studio dashboard connected to your own data in one click.

The link builder runs in your browser. Your sheet stays in your Google Drive and connects straight to Looker Studio.

  1. Copy the data template

A Google Sheet laid out the way Looker Studio likes it: one row per day, per channel and campaign. It comes with a month of example data so you can see the dashboard working straight away.

  2. Add your data

Replace the example rows on the Data tab with your numbers from GA4 and your ad platforms. Keep the column headers exactly as they are. Hover over a header in the sheet to see what goes in it.

  3. Create your report

Paste the link to your copy and Looker Studio will open a new report already connected to it.

    Create my Looker Studio report

Looker Studio will ask you to sign in with Google and to allow access to your sheet. Make sure you use the same Google account that owns the copy.

  4. Add calculated fields

In Looker Studio, go to Resource › Manage added data sources › Edit › Add a field. Ratios built from totals stay correct when you filter by date or channel.

    Field nameFormulaTypeCopy
    Engagement rateSUM(Engaged sessions) / SUM(Sessions)Percent
    Key event rateSUM(Key events) / SUM(Sessions)Percent
    Cost per key eventSUM(Cost) / SUM(Key events)Currency
    ROASSUM(Revenue) / SUM(Cost)Number
    CTRSUM(Clicks) / SUM(Impressions)Percent
    CPCSUM(Cost) / SUM(Clicks)Currency
  5. Build the layout

The one-page layout I start most client dashboards with:

    • Top row: a date range control and a Channel filter
    • Scorecards: Sessions, Key events, Key event rate, Revenue, Cost and ROAS, each comparing with the previous period
    • A time series of Sessions and Key events by Date
    • A table by Channel with Sessions, Key events, Key event rate, Revenue and ROAS
    • A table by Campaign with Cost, Clicks, CTR, CPC, Key events and Cost per key event

How to use it

  1. Copy the data template and replace the example rows with your own numbers.
  2. Paste the link to your copy above and create your report in one click.
  3. Add the calculated fields and build the layout. Update the sheet each month and the dashboard updates too.

Want the data to update itself? GA4 and Google Ads have their own Looker Studio connectors. The sheet is the easiest way to bring every platform into one place.
